The Scorchers & WA 50-over title-winning captain returns to Durham for a 3rd year after recovering from a knee injury.
After spending time in the IPL with the Lucknow Super Giants, Western Australia hitter Ashton Turner is returning to Durham to participate in the Vitality Blast for a third consecutive season.
Turner, 31, has not played since sustaining a knee injury during the BBL terminated his Australian domestic season in December. Nevertheless, he is presently playing in the IPL with LSG, even though their large overseas roster has prevented him from being selected for the starting XI.

Nevertheless, having participated in 22 games for Durham over the previous two seasons and amassed 408 runs at 34.00 with a middle-order strike-rate of 153.38, he is expected to play a significant role in the Blast campaign.

Turner, who has been a popular player at Durham and Manchester Originals during the past two England summers, is one of the very few middle-order experts in T20 cricket in Australia. With former Western Australia teammate Marcus North, director of cricket for Durham, and current coach Ryan Campbell, a former Western Australia keeper-batter, both Durham and Originals have strong ties to the state of Western Australia. Simon Katich, Turner’s former captain of the Perth Scorchers, is the current Originals coach.

Durham values Turner’s leadership and middle-order hitting skills, so North expressed his happiness in having him return.
“”It is fantastic to announce to have Ashton back to Durham this year,” North said in a statement. “In his two stints at the club, he has proven to possess essential leadership qualities and blends in perfectly with our squad.

Having led the Scorchers and Western Australia to numerous titles in the recent past, he is a seasoned leader and run scorer. I’m excited to see him back at the club in May.”
Turner has led WA to three Marsh Cup (Australian domestic 50-over) championships and the Scorchers to two BBL crowns during the previous five years. His injury-related absence from the BBL significantly hindered the Scorchers’ chances of winning the BBL three-peat.
With his most recent international being against South Africa in a three-match T20I series last year, he has participated in nine ODIs and nineteen T20Is for Australia.
