The Comedy Central channel has commissioned ten episodes of Golden Axe, an animated series inspired by fantasy beat-em-up sidescroller games. According to Deadline, the game adaption would be “hilarious & loving”.
If I recall well from my Sega Genesis days, I believe there will be squabbles over who gets to ride the purple bird dinosaur, and at some point, a massive hairy skull will drift down and hotbox everyone.
Whose bright concept was this, you ask? You may blame creators Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks) & Joe Chandler (American Dad!), who will also co-write the first episodes and later serve as producer.

As reported by Deadline, Matthew Rhys (Cocaine Bear) is going to portray Gilius Thunderhead, well known as the warrior dwarf and the most outstanding character. The show will also include Lisa Gilroy (Glamorous) as the fire-wielding Tyris Flare & Liam McIntyre (Spartacus) as Ax the Battler, an outsider who does not fight with an axe.

Danny Pudi stars as Hampton Squib, a foolish dreamer who is new to adventuring, while Carl Tart portrays Chronos “Evil” Lait, the villain from Golden Axe 3.
Considering how long it has been since the last Golden Axe game, it may appear that this was an idea picked from a pile labeled “is this anything?”
But, with a new game on the way, could we be in for a Golden Axe renaissance? Also, don’t forget about the Twisted Metal TV program and the four seasons of Castlevania on Netflix, with a second season of Castlevania: Nocturne on the way. I don’t know about you, but I am rooting for Yo! Noid comes next.
